Program – Glen Thompson (cranberry rancher) and Dave Bellomany Ag scientist from Ocean Spray) who manages 105 cranberry growers. Cranberries are not a row crop like corn. He told about the many harvesting methods, plants produce for 4 – 15 years but some have gone as long as 85 years. Fresh earns the most money and process berries less. Interesting information.

Program – Jim Wyrich accepted a check to help pay for bus repair for Eye Care We care. He answered question  and told about what goes on during a mission. He left to catch the plane to the Philippines. He will be gone for 11 days seeing about 500+ patients. Irv from Aberdeen told us about the eye machine that they are wishing for help to buy to take around to schools to test the kids eyesight both near and far sighted. It will do 7 functions really quick. Each unit costs  $7.000.00 . He accepted a check also.

Dee told us about his 3 month trip to California, Arizona and Texas

He said there are 11 missions to the Philippines for 2018 although they has a lot of problems with the mobile bus ( motor and transmission ) They see 500+ patients a day. Since 2005 they have served over 25,000 patients. He related on how he got to do what he dose. Impressive!

Program -Molly and Dana from Paws. They told us about their goals and future plans. They gave out handouts so we could get an idea of how much it takes to run PAWS. They have acquired the house next door which will house a Vet (intern) and dog kennels so they do not have to have a vet take the animals when they are not open. They are open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturdays.They gave about 25 volunteers helping out.

Program – Jerry S. introduced Ken Albert the Graus Harbor Treasurer. The treasurer is the ‘bank for the county’. He explained all the changes to the treasurer’s dept. They just completed some changes this morning. The changes are to make it much easer to navigate around to get the answers you are looking for and to cut down on the confusion you have been experiencing. Proptery tax statements will be mailed out March 16. Thanks to Ken for all that information.

Program – Paul M introduced Pam Pelan. She has started a Horse Prayer program for handicapped children ages 4 to 13. It is located on 300 acres in Copalas. It is non profet. They will be up and running in June. They have 2 horses now and expect to have 30 horses when they are self sustaining. It is a much needed program for the county’s special need children.  They will be using mentors and volenteers. Cpntact Pam Pelan for more information.
