The meeting was called to order by King Lion  Seppo, his last.  King Lion Mel will be taking over next week.  The singing sounded so good that I thought the Hoquiam Tabernacle Choir was present.   Jim Bucknell and Jack Durney will be program chairmen for July.

June 9, 2015

Lion King Seppo called meeting to order followed by the most glorious singing due to small attendance with only the “Caruso’s” showing.

Lion Pete Hegg is doing better than expected after by-pass surgery.

Lion Ken Johnson reported as progressing after his surgery.

The sign up sheet for the 2015 fireworks booth was passed and looked like most slots were filled.

July 17th is the Central Park Lions installation dinner at 6:00 – $12.00.

July 18th is our Installation Dinner.  Just around the corner and we need your support.

Lion of the Year ballots were passed and collected.

Lion Chris introduced Mike Parker, Superintendent of Hoquiam School District.  Mike stressed the changes in student needs and how the system is changing to meet the needs and plans for the future.  Also, building maintenance and repair was covered.

Lion Joann won the pot and was not present to claim the $$$.

 

May 12, 2015

Meeting was called to order by King Lion Seppo, the traditional singing was started off key and did not improve.

Guests, 11 in total were introduced, were family members of the Boys and Girls of the month.  A good and impressive showing.

Mel Thompson was reported as doing well and resting at the local hotel on the hill.

Camp Leo attendees are currently being selected.

Highway clean up sign up sheet was passed and is scheduled for May 20th at 1 PM.

Boys and Girl of the Month for 3 months were introduced and recognized.  AprilBailee Bradley and Kenny Wakefield

All 6 came equipped with impressive scholastic and social skills.  Speaks well for our community.

Larry Jones won the pot for the second week.  Maybe this will continue until the new transmission is amortized 100%.                                               

April 28, 2015

King Seppo called the meeting to order and Lion Pete led the singing which rivaled the Mormon Tabernacle in quality.

Guests today were Ann and Monte, Lions from Kalama.

Supplies of White Canes are ready as reported by Lion Ray.

Installation of Officers is scheduled for June 18th at 5:30 PM.

Congrats to Lauren Kuhn, granddaughter of Lion Mel, for singing the National Anthem at the NBA game in Boston.

No Program today but we did hear from Lions Larry and Dee on their winter excursions in the great Southwest.

King Lion Seppo joined the Clallam Bay Seiku Lions Club in a nationally recognized beach cleaning.

The pot went to Paula Dean.

 

April 21, 2015

The meeting was called, as always, on time by King Lion Seppo and singing led by Lion Pete V.L. and was carried in a mediocre tempo.

No guests were present.

Installation of Officers will be held on June 18th.  Lion Jerry S. read the nominations of the officers, was seconded and passed unanimously.  No further reading and voting will be necessary.

The Zone meeting was held last Thursday in Aberdeen .  It was reported that Raymond/Willapa Harbor is now the largest club in the zone with 74 members.

The Scholarship Committee is now forming for this year.

The Program for today was Ted Amelio the incoming Director of Physical Therapy for Pacific Care.  Ted announced the open  house to be taking place May 11th through May 13th with the GRAND OPENING on May 14th.  We all should make an effort to stop by and visit this most important part of our community.   Ted did report that therapy has continued at the Karr House and Channel Point.  Most informative program from a naturally gifted speaker.

Meeting was called to order by King Lion Seppo.  Singing was better than usual due to the number of guests to show off our warbling prowess.

Boy and Girl of the Month were introduced. Fritzi Sanchez, a well travelled young lad, bilingual and with many school activities plans to be a Dental Assistant after graduation.  Luke Creviston is musically inclined and runs Cross Country and plans on entering the medical field after graduation from the University of Washington.

Today’s program, presented by Lonnie Howell Hoquiam Building Inspector, was not only interesting but timely.  He addressed the landslides in January and the insurance foibles and pitfalls.  Also covered are some possible plans for building removal.

I believe the pot went unclaimed.

FEBRUARY 2015

King :Lion Seppo called the meeting to order. The singing was outstanding, mostly because of all the guests we had. There were 8 guests representing the students of the month, 7 science fair presenters, and 3 from the science side of the school.

Brock introduced the students of the month – Hannah Houbregs who wants to be an orthodontist, and Drew Carley who wants to go into music and drama..

Stan introduced the 6 finalists from the science fair that presented their science project to us to vote on one to receive the $1,000.00 scholarship. We could see that they all put in a lot of work in these projects. They we all great! The winner was #6. Good job to all.

Feb 3, 2015 – Al Bruun reporting.

1st VP Mel called the meeting to order. Singing was great

Birthdays – Al, Bud Jerry M, Paula Joann, and Dave Wayman.

Crab feed – Feb 13 ar Cosi at 6:00. Cost $20.00 person. Clean crabs at Lytle’s at 10:00.

March 21 – Music by the sea put on by coastal harvest $40.00 person at Quinault beach resort. Info at www.coastalharvestwa.org.

Program – Ray introduced Jan Jorgenson Director of the from Grays Harbor College Foundation. There are 13 schools taking part in the World Class Scholars program. The students sigh up and sign a contract in the fall and are tracked throughout the program mostly by parents. In their senior year in  spring they are recognized. They get a $1,500.00 scholarship. Current tuition is $4,000.00 a 3 quarter school year. On Feb 26 there is a fund raiser called Mystery Getaway. $50.00 ticket. There are other scholarships available with a deadline of March 9.Also, check out Bishop Center programs.  Questions – contact Jan Jorgenson at Grays Harbor College.

Meeting called to order by King Lion Seppo.  Singing was outstanding.

King Lion Seppo announced that he would be absent for a couple of weeks and 1st Vice President Mel Thompson will assume control.  Happy Mel is feeling good enough to do so…

REMINDER: The Crab Feed will be held on February 13th at the Cozi Lions Club starting at 6PM.  Please bring your own tools, plates, glasses, etc.

GUEST SPEAKER:  Steven Slaughter, a geologist with the Dept. of Natural Resources discussed the Landslide history, current and future potential.  Also, he discussed and presented a most professional slide show regarding slope stability in local areas.  Kudos to Steven.

Lion Mary Thornton won a large amount of $$$$ as the pot winner.

Lion King Seppo called the meeting to order. Attendance was only 11, so the singing was not very good.

Rain is about 60″ at this time. It will be posted daily after x-mas.

In January ( dates to be announced) –board meeting and computer group meeting.

Program – Gordon introduces Doug Warnken the sec.  of Poogie Club. He gave an update on their projects and upcoming events. They have been around since 1934 as a sportsman club, but they deal mostly with fish. The big event is the kids fish derby at Failor lake. 260 kids and every one walked away with something. In 2015 they will have: Jan 21 – crab feed, Apr 18 kids fish derby, May 9 ladies night, and July 18 picnic. It was great information.

The meeting was called to order by King Lion Seppo followed by a B+ rated singing display.  Of course, the display was enhanced by Hoquiam High School students.

3 Gwinn’s were introduced by Lion Al Bruun.  Mother, Father and Grandmother of Emily.

THE DRIZZLE is in and has been distributed to those responsible for distribution to advertisers.

Tom and Jerry party next week along with turkey bingo.  Also, the meeting on the 23rd will be a regular meeting.

Boy and Girl of the Month were presented by Lion Brock.  EMILY GWINN is ASB president, president of the Honor Society and has played basketball and soccer as well as been a band member for 4 years.  She aspires to become an Attorney after attending Gray Harbor College and Gonzaga U.  JEFF BREEZE has participated in band for 4 years, track for 1 year, FBLA for 2 years and Knowledge Bowl for 1 year. He plans on continuing his education at Grays Harbor College eventually landing in the fields of Forensic Law Enforcement after graduating from UW.

Our guest speaker was Linda Borth from the Food Bank thanking everyone for the success of Food Bowl.  They were enriched by 5 large pallets of food and $50,000.  WOW!! Hoquiam Community should be proud.

Steve Mihovillich won the pot but was not present.

Jim Bucknell reporting.  Meeting was called to order by King Lion Seppo.  Singing quality graded above normal.  We even sang “Hppy Birthday” to Gary Morgan as the club coffers were enhanced by Lion Gary.

Lion Rudy was recognized for 58 years of service. WOW!!!

December 16th – Tuesday – is the Christmas Turkey Bingo and Tom and Jerry Party.  These festivities follow a Kings Table portion of Pot Roast.

Rain Derby winners will be announced January 16th.

Salvation Army kickoff for this season will be December 4th.  Lion Pete Vander Linden is our representative.

Jerry Erickson won the drawing and left a wealth man.

Meeting was called to order by Lion King Seppo followed by barely passable singing.

The sorting party was successful and printing should be done on about December 10 per Lion Roger.

In new business, December 16th is the Christmas Party including Tom and Jerry’s and Turkey Bingo.  Also, at 5:30 tonight is the Recognition  Party at the Elks Club.  Tickets available from Lion Pete in the bar prior to dinner.

Today’s guest was Brianna Torres from the new Passport Cafe located where the old Senior Center was located on 8th Street.  They are open form 9 AM till 7 PM, Monday through Saturday with breakfast still in the planning stages.  They feature sandwiches, pizza and fresh baked breads all with a European Focus.  Catering is available.  Check them out on Facebook for specials that day.
