Program – Ray showed us slides of his trip to Petra. He was gone 11 days .Frim Israel he went into Jordon. We saw landscapes, buildings and dwellings and a canyon. He also talked about Lawerance of Arabia and the defeat of the Ottomen. Really great pictures and information.

Program – Paul McMillian talked about the upcoming school levy. @ 2.5 million the first year and $ 2.75 million year 2 This is for 2017 – 2018 years. It replaces the current one. It pays for items not covered by basic education. VOTE by Feb 9

Guests included parents of the students of the month and relations of the Rain Derby winners.

Fireworks contract was discussed and Paul M. will sign it and get it sent in.

Program _ Roger presented Rain Derby awards to: Betty Fosburg, Freds auto body shop, Nancy VanDinte, Lytle seafiids, and Tom Bruun.

Roger also related some of the Ran Derby history – In 1939 the chamber of commerance did it, The Lion took it over in 1943.

Question 3 – In 1914 this date, what did Henry Ford do? Instead of 9 hours a day at $2.34, he now paid $5.00 a day but 6 days a week.

Rain derby winners will be presented next week

program – Jerry Schaefer told us a about a new western movie (Revenant – meaning spirit comes to life)  that should come out ths month. It is the story about Hugh Glass. In 1822 he signed on to up the Missouri River expedition (trapping) In 1823 he was mauled by a grizzly bear. He was so close to death that he was buried, but survived. With broken bones he crawled to Fort Kiowa. According to Jerry it should be a good film to see about mountain men. Good info Jerry!

Program – The Poggie Club returns once again to up-date us. It started in 1934 and has taken over the Mayer Brothers Hatchery. They have about 1,000,000 eggs on hand and the release 300,00 to 400,000 fish a year. crab feed, kids derby, ladies night, club picnic, steelhead derby and coho derby. They have 186 members and yearly dues are $10.00. Another good information session.

Program – Jerry Schaefer presented two new pomes. He told us about the western poetry convention in Montana he attended. He dresses in period clothes to read his poems. He has two new ones he read to us – U S Spruce Production Company of WW1 called soldiers in the woods, and Ghoul of Grays Harbor. Both were GREAT!

Chevron awards – Al 10 years, Ray 15 years, Mike 20 years and Chris 30 years.

New District Project – school of the blind.

Rain derby – 4000 tickets sold. Sort party went good.

7 of us handed out 193 turkey dinners at the food bank yesterday.

Program – Jerry Schaefer related facts about the battle at Adobe Wells in 1874. Highlighted were: there were 2 battles 10 years apart. Location was the Texas Panhandle. Kit Carson trued to rescue several women against 3000 Indians. This failed. The Sand Creek massacre in 1865 and the Fetterman massacre on 1866 led up to the Medicine  Lodge Treaty giving the panhandle to the Indians,  but the buffalo hunters setup camp and were attacked by 300 indians. They held on for 3 days when Billy Dixon made a 1,500 made an outstanding shot bringing down one indian. The tribes were relocated to Oklahoma. Another outstanding job by Jerry!

The meeting was called to order by King Lion Mel. Guests were the Coles and Mrs Murphy.

Food bank wants people to hand out turkeys just before thanksgiving.

Zone meeting the 19th at 6:00 ocean palace.

Stub party the 20th at 5.30 at catholic church. pot luck.

Turkey bingo next week. $5.00.

Students of the month – Jessica Cole and Shane Murphy.

Program – Riley Wyett the area rep for TNT fireworks. He went over changes that we need to be concerned about. Lower pricing, we will now make 40% instead of 50%, insurance will be a flat fee of $150.00, and it was suggested to us a credit card machine. We wanyed to know what misc fees included:insurance, sipping, handling, etc. He is willing to come back and answer more questions as they come up. If we want to order additional items they need to know by February.

501c has been reinstated.

Program was Mike Lytle who told us all about oyster farming. He started in 1987. He relayed about oyster industry history. And then told us how to grow them. Oysters in Gray’s Harbor are Pacific Oysters. They are not natural; they have been brought in. Mike grows them on ropes which keeps them out of the mud. This way they have a good survival rate. Oysters from different areas taste differently because of the rivers that feed the harbor. He sells in the U. S., Canada, Hong Kong, etc. He employs about 20 workers. This was a very good overview of his oyster business. Well done Mike!

Loggers Playday made $4,000 +

Program – Rudy introduced Mike Reynolds the chief engineer for Oval Strapping. He us responsible for all engineers the company has world wide. Their machines wrap paper pulp in bales using either wire or a strapping made out of paper that is twisted and bonded together which stays on the bales during processing. He showed videos on the wrapping process and on the distilling making equipment.

King Lion Mel called the meeting to order.

Question 1 – 1n 1850 what did the Navy stop doing?  Flogging

Question 2 – Un 1938 what happened in Europe?  European pact with Germany getting Czechoslovakia.

Logger playday history – started in the 1960’s.  Was going to be a pageant but that cost to much, so it was a loggers show at Emerson Field and with a comic show at the gym with Bill Cosby. Button cost was $1.00

Program – Mel showed a bunch of his books, old and new, on different topics and several other items ( a bank and a couple of dolls). A real show and tell time.

King Lion called the meeting to order.

Guests were Chris and Jerry engineers from PUD, And Dan Gleason, a friend of Larry’s and potential member.

Loggers day gross was $8,000.00 + before expenses. We will know more after all has been paid off.

Program _ Lee Thomason speaking on the Sons of American Revolution. He belongs to the Alexander Hamilton chapter in Tacoma. He has traced his relation back to a private in the revolution. Many people can join. Just check your ancestry. They give certifications and applications to eagle scouts along with scholarships ( local $500.00 and national $5000.00 ) He said that 25% serving in the revolutionary war were colored. He also explained the minute man and other services did. Very good history lesson.

Fireworks project – we made $1,200.00.

Discussion on BBQ, consessions, and button sales. Potato scrub a peanut bagging on the 10th at 6:00. Washington School.

Program – Debbi Luther about Hoquiam’s 125 anniv. We were given wooden nickels and information on upcoming events. The coin club has put out silver and copper anniv coins. Available at Harbor durgs and possibly at Polson museum for $35 and $15.. Coming up – a slide and movie show at 7th street theater Nov. 13, and a mayors ball Nov 14 at the Elks.

King Lion Mel called the meeting to order. Number of guests, so they introduced themselves.

We discussed loggers playday button sales, BBQ, and concessions.

Program – was J. D. Miller who is the new district gov. He is a Vancouver Lions member. He talked on how the lions fit/help in the community. He stressed the International President’s theme – dignity harmony and humanity. Respect the dignity of those we serve. Buld harmonyto the world. His theme is – dance like nobody is watching. The spring conference will be May 13 0 14 at the Red Lion in Vancouver. The 100th anniv. in 2017 will be a 3 year celebration .He closed with a quote ” Lions can do anything. Lions never fail”.

There was a directors meeting after the close.

King Lion Mel called the meeting to order in his usual efficient and proper manner.  This was followed by better than average harmonizing.

Guest of the club was Tom from the Hoquiam City Parks Department.  Many kudos to Tom for his time spent in helping the club on various projects.

As the meeting progressed, Lion Roger passed the Rain Derby tickets out to members present.

There is no report ready according to Lion Jack, patiently awaiting review by Lion Larry.

The program for today was a team from Windermere Real Estate, Pat Olleachea and Travis Jelovich.  A most interesting program covering the Real Estate market in Grays Harbor area.  The trend is up from 2010 and 2013 lows.  The “For Sale Inventory” is down pushing toward a healthy average of 4 months worth of sales inventory.  Commercial sales are steady, about the same in the last 3 years. Very positive outlook.

Gordon Lanning, a man of untold wealth, won the pot.

PROGRAM – Ian Cpoe from the PUD. I75th Its the anniversary of the PUD that was started in 1889 as the Aberdeen electric Co. which merged with several other locally owned electric co’s. It became public in 1940 as the PUD with 12.000 customers. Now there are 41,000. 159 people work there. They will have a booth at the fair starting tomorrow. Questions and answers followed. Great information about the history of our locally controlled PUD.  Thank you Ian!

King Lion Mel called the meeting to order. Jerry Erickson led us in singing.

10:30 Friday – BBQ for Westheaven.

Program – 7th street kids presented several numbers from MY SON PINOCCHO with singers and dancers that will be preformed this Friday ( 7:30 ) Saturday ( 7:30 ) and Sunday ( 2:00 ) At the theater. Tickets are $12.00 for adults, $8.00 for students and $5.00 for under 12 years of age. The kids gave us a good preview of the  show. Tickets available at the usual outlets.

Reminder – BBQ at Westhaven July 31 at 10:30.

Program – Jin introduce Paul Dean who explained what the $11.82 on our water bill was for.Its an availability fee to cover aid calls. The fire dept. gets 3,000+ calls a year. There was also a lively discussion about other fire dept. questions that were asked. Very good information was passed along by Paul.

Program – Inrepduced by Jim Bucknell was the fire dept. new ladderl truck that goes up 100′. Capt. Matt Miller and fireman/paramedic Aaron Cihak told us all about the truck and then we went outside for an outstanding demonstration. It is an impressive piece of machinery.

Fireworks stand set up Thursday at 1:00.

Fireworks work schedule was handed out.

$500.00 sent to YMCA summer program for kids.

Camp Leo – 2 kifs going but parents only paid registration – we pay the rest.

Discussion on moving the Ospray nest.

Program — Mel introduce Paige Kuhn ( Miss Grays Harbor ) who is running for Miss Washington which happens next week. She attends Eastern Washington. Her platform is providing school supplies for kids in need. Her talent is piano and she played what she will play at the contest. She introduced Nora Coffely ( Miss Outstanding teen ) Who told us about what she went through for the competition which starts in October. Her platform is socks for foster kids. Her talent is ballet. We wish LUCK to noth of them.

The guest was Joan Donovitch, the new school nurse.

Program was members of the High School music dept. The new music teacher has been teaching for 27 years in a number of school districts and told us the different aspects of the music program.. 3 trumpet players played a number and a flutist played a solo. They were great. The students then told what they learned from the music program – leadership, ethics, how to work together, and being committed.

Next Tuesday we will have 6 students of the month.

On the 26th we will have all the students of the month for the year.

Program – Ian  Cope from the PUD. He told us where and what he has been doing since he was last year several years ago. He is now the Communications Director and the Government Relations Director for the PUD. He puts the ads and such out to the public about what is going on. He also told us about alternative power that is solar, wind, etc but not water. And he brought up the rebate programs. It was a lot of very good information that affects us all.

Zone meeting April 16th 6:00 at Ocean Palace.

Next week first reading of new officers slate.

White cane day – sigh up with Ray. Al will ramrod on May 1.

Program – Jerry Schaefer did slide show and talk on Male Siblings and Their Careers. right after the civil war, there was the homestead program. Parents needed large families (6 – 12 kids) to make it work and they wanted the kids to work together as a unit. Some of the siblings were involved in either  law enforcement or outlawing (robbing banks and trains) Examples of sibling units – Earp brothers, Younger brothers, Thompson brothers, Dalton Brothers, Masterson brothers, Logon brothers, James brothers, Clanton brothers. Katchum brothers, Tibbit brothers, Reno brothers and DeAutremort brothers. Jerry explained what each group was involved with. GREAT PRESENTATION AND INFORMATION.
